Details

Melbourne Airport’s new Terminal 4 (T4) has opened for Tiger Air, Jetstar and REX flights, located just south of terminal 3 (T3).

The new terminal includes state-of-the-art self service nodes on the ground level along with automatic bag drops.

Melbourne Airport's T4 domestic terminal will have the capacity to cater for 10 million passengers each year.

This recent installation is part of Melbourne Airport's exciting transformation in upgrading facilities.

ELCA were commissioned to provide a design for an outdoor break area, and designated outdoor smoking area for the high level of passengers who will now frequent the new terminal.

The design contained a feature wall surrounding the site to provide privacy and intimacy in an otherwise hectic environment. The materials of this feature wall included a timber frame to soften the surrounding hardscape, and a dark coloured metal screening to align with the new terminal building.

The metal screening included laser cut images of planes to compliment the feature with further details, as well as improve passive surveillance.

Refreshing feature trees are included in the design, with smaller feature planting surrounding the perimeter of the site.
